How to make a strawberry bunny hat
Firstly, make sure you've made a bunny using one of my bunny patterns (this hat will fit any of my bunny patterns. The bunnies pictured here are from my 'April the Easter bunny' pattern). You can find all of my patterns here.
So there are a couple of different ways you can do the hat. You can either make the hat look like a strawberry, or you if you put your bunny into strawberry themed overalls, then you may wish to do the hat all in green like the top of a strawberry!

Yarns I used for the bunnies & strawberry hats pictured above:
- Hat
Left Bunny: I used Cygnet Jelly Baby Chunky in ‘Hot Stuff’
Right Bunny: I used Hobbii Honey Bunny in 'Eucalyptus'
- Overalls
Left Bunny: I used Cygnet Jelly Baby Chunky in ‘Mint Tea’
Right Bunny: I used Hobbii Honey Bunny in 'Pink'
- Strawberry seeds
Both Bunnies: I used Hobbii Baby Snuggle in ‘Baby Duck'
- Bunny
Left Bunny: I used Hobbii Baby Snuggle in ‘Soft Sand’
Right Bunny: I used Hobbii Baby Snuggle in 'Teddy Bear'
- Nose
Both Bunnies: DK yarn in dark brown
How to make the strawberry hat:
Work in continuous rounds and use the same size hook as you used for your bunny (for me that was a 5.5mm hook).
Strawberry hat (in pink, red or green):
Rnd 1: 6sc in magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: 6inc (12)
Rnd 3: (1inc, 1sc) x6 (18)
Rnd 4: 1sc, 1inc, (2sc, 1inc) x5, 1sc (24)
Rnd 5: (1inc, 3sc) x6 (30)
Rnd 6: 2sc, 1inc, (4sc, 1inc) x5, 2sc (36)
Rnd 7: (1inc, 5sc) x6 (42)
Rnd 8: 6sc, ch10, skip 7, 16sc, ch10, skip 7, 6sc (48)
Rnd 9: 48sc (48) – some of these stitches will go through the chains we made in the previous round.
Rnd 10-12: 48sc (48)
Rnd 13: FLO: (3dc into same stitch, sl st, sl st) x16 (80)
Fasten off & weave in ends.
Strawberry hat stalk & leaves (in green):
IMPORTANT: Leave a long starting tail of about 15cm.
Rnd 1: 11hdc in magic ring
Pull the magic ring closed most of the way – but leave a small gap in the middle for now (you’ll need to push your stem through it later). Then sl st to the first st.
Rnd 2: (ch4, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc into next ch, hdc into last ch, sl st into next st on mr, sl st into next st on mr) x6
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Now we will make the stem.
Switch to a 3mm hook and then turn your leafy piece over so that you are looking at the underside of it. Insert your hook through the underside of any of the stitches near to the long starting tail. Then grab the tail with your hook and pull through so that you have a loop on your hook.
Now chain 5 and then sl st down the chain starting in 2nd ch from hook. When you get to the end of the chain fasten off.
Finally, push the green stem through the magic ring to the top of the leafy piece.
To complete the hat, sew the leafy stem to the top of the hat and if you’re making the strawberry hat, use some pale yellow yarn to stitch little yellow seeds all over.
