How to stop the dreaded cone shaped head

How to stop the dreaded cone shaped head

The 'cone effect' is something which some people find happens when using plush yarn when starting with 6sc in a magic ring.

There are a couple of things which can fix this. The first option is to use a slightly bigger hook. If this is no good and you want to stick to the hook size you're using, then the other way is to add in more stitches in the initial rounds by doing the following:

Original pattern:
Rnd 1: 6sc in magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: 6inc (12)
Rnd 3: (1sc, 1inc) x6 (18)
Rnd 4: (2sc, 1inc) x6 (24)
Rnd 5: (3sc, 1inc) x6 (30)

And so on, increasing in multiples of 6.

Change pattern to:
Rnd 1: 8sc in magic ring (8)
Rnd 2: 8inc (16)
Rnd 3: (1sc, 1inc) x8 (24)
Rnd 4: SKIP
Rnd 5: (3sc, 1inc) x6 (30)

From here, you'll carry on following the original pattern and increase in multiples of 6.

You should then find you get a flatter circle when starting the piece....

Which in turn then ends up in a nicely rounded piece!
